Ugly Crochet Slippers

Yes, my new slippers are ugly. Yes, they are square, like the ones I made before. Maybe that’s what makes them ugly. Or, maybe, it’s all the hodgepodge yarn I used. Doesn’t matter, I like them. They are comfy and warm and fit my feet really well.

Speaking of my old crochet slippers,I’ve been wearing the heck out of them. They are way too big for my feet and I go slip sliding around in them. Yeah, those. But I love them anyway. However, I wanted to make another pair. A pair that would actually fit, you know, my feet.

So I rummaged through my stash looking for something warm and comfy and found this thick, chunky yarn in a variegated brownish color. I grabbed a matching Tunisian crochet hook (size L) that looked good for the yarn size and I was set.

This is what was left after the soles and tops were done.

It’s all I had of that yarn and it looked like a big enough ball to finish a set but I know from my past slipper experience to always assume the worst. It might not be enough to finish the project so I only used it for the soles and front of the slippers. Then if I had enough, I could use it for the sides and opening. I’m glad I did it that way, because I would not have had enough yarn to finish both slippers.

…which meant I had to go looking for more yarn. I found this one that was slightly thicker but it would do.

I think the yarns fit well together.

Peas in a pod. 🙂

I used the lighter color around the sides.

The sole and top of the shoe were done using Tunisian knit stitch (tks). I went around the side using the lighter color in single crochet.

I had enough of that second yarn but it seemed way to thick at the time to keep going with it. I chose a slimmer yarn for the top although I’m having some regrets now.

And tadah! Here are my ugly slippers in all their gory, ahem, I mean glory. 🙂

That second one in the back isn’t smaller, I promise!

They feel so good!

I might still add a flower or a heart to make them prettier (who am I kidding, I probably won’t). Hubby once again (like he did with the last pair) said, “But they’re square.” Yeah, I know. But I like them like that (and it was intentional!).
