Crochet Doll Book

LR embroidery needles

Most probably don’t remember that I’ve been working on a crochet doll book for what seems like ages. First, it took me a few years to write it. Then when I finally did, I gave it to my hubby to lay it out and get it designed. Then he kicked it back to me to add pictures and check it over. He was supposed to do that but he could never get to it, having to make a living and all. LOL Well, all this has taken over five years (maybe more)! Namely because he’s busy and I’m busy and we both kept putting it off.

But that has all ended. I vowed that I would do my part this summer. My choice was to keep waiting or do it myself. The truth is that I was intimidated by trying to do it myself. At the time, I didn’t have the experience I have now and wasn’t ready to tackle it. Now, I feel more competent about doing it and about looking up what I don’t know how to do. No more excuses. Liebster Award

Screen Shot 2018-07-14 at 10.02.59 PMMany thanks to Linda from https://kelleysdiy.com for nominating me for the Liebster Award! I am very honored. Linda has a fabulous website that’s all about diy. I use many of her fun ideas with my students at work. She is very inspiring. 🙂

The questions asked

1) What is your favorite color?

Purple! Purple! Purple!

Yolanda means violet flower. My birth stone is an amethyst. My month’s flower is a violet. My favorite color could only be purple. It was destined.

2) Cats or Dogs?

I guess if I had to pick, I’d say cats, even though I haven’t had one for a very long time. Although I love the dogs I’ve owned and those of family,  I don’t go all goo goo for other peoples’ dogs. Cats though, there’s just something about them. If I weren’t allergic, I would probably have some cats.

Two Kitties I’ve owned in the past.

Look at those eyes! This was a very naughty kitty but he was beautiful.

Large Crochet Graduation Hat And Pattern

Ok, how do say this, my crochet, adult-size crochet hat is…not great? A failure? A partial failure? Totally cool? I’m not sure how I feel about it.

As I mentioned before, I get quite a few questions about how to adjust my small keepsake crochet graduation hats to be wearable. Well, I like a challenge (sometimes), and I decided to see what I could do. I couldn’t just increase the size of the little hats because a real human head needs something different. I went for it and this is what happened.

Lessons learned

I actually like the beanie part. It fit really nicely on the head so I might keep this for later use on other hats.

As you could predict, a large crochet square isn’t going to be very rigid. In fact, even with two strands (I used two strands), it’s quite floppy. It looked ridiculous. I tried to think how I could fix it and came up with two ideas. Continue reading

Life-size doll tries to steal my man!

Last summer, I left the life-size crochet doll in the classroom and instantly regretted it. I had no access to her for pictures or fun. When I returned in the Fall, the custodian told me how she kept scaring him, along with other people who entered our room. Although very funny, I didn’t want to scare anyone at work over the Summer.

At the end of this school year, I brought her home and quickly propped her up on the couch. Now you see her when you walk in the front door. I don’t want to scare the staff at the school, but I don’t mind scaring the family. 🙂

We had a graduation for my son, nephew and niece recently, and while I was running around taking pictures, I think the life-size doll was trying to cuddle up to my husband. He wasn’t even aware she was making moves on him. She looked all cozy, watching him play on his phone.

I moved in for a picture, stealth-like.

He was very suspicious.

I asked what he was doing with the doll. He acted like he didn’t know she was there.

Where did she come from?

He claimed she was in his spot and he just moved her out of the way. And she just happened to land like that? A likely story.

That’s right, she just happened to land like that.

I rescued her from a summer of loneliness and misery and this is how she repays me?

P.S. All but one of the pictures is authentic, that is, hubby didn’t know what I was doing. I bet you can tell which ones were real and which one he was hamming up.
