Another Day in the Life of Sheltering at Home

Yesterday, I had nothing to do on my crochet book. It’s currently at the editor’s and will be back in a week. In the meantime, I spent a few hours researching how to submit a book to Amazon. Turns out, it wasn’t such an easy task. One article (that was very useful) suggested NOT to try to format a book ourselves but to hire someone to do it because it’s quite complicated. Well  now, I figured, I do have a lot of time on my hands right now. Let me see.

Hours later, I was going deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole of information. One link lead to another link to another link… and soon I couldn’t remember how to get back to an important link I had navigated away from three links ago! Repeat process with videos. There were a lot of equations and formulas for formatting and so much blah blah blah on the correct way to do a cover. I’m still not clear on whether I can use the same file to create both an ebook and a physical on-demand book. I might have to recreate my book for that!

And after all that, I learned Amazon has an app to do your manuscript that does the formatting for you. Why the heck did I waste my time trying to learn all that other stuff then?! 😂 I quickly downloaded it. Turns out, I can’t take advantage of most of its features because my book is something called ‘fixed type’ so now I’m confused again… but learning. The pdf I uploaded to the software gave me a preview of how it would appear on a tablet like a kindle fire and it looked good so I’m hopeful.

After hours of that, I needed a break and went to read some vampire witchy novel (I love those). It’s A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Reading is a passion of mine, but I haven’t been able to do much of it lately. If I get caught up in a good read, I don’t come out again until I’m done. My sister told me about this series. She knows me well. I’m in it now!

I did that for hours, and then I crocheted for a few more. I worked on the Darth Maul Baby Yoda and finished some face masks, some crocheted and some hand sewn.

That rainbow one came out a little bigger than I intended. I’ll have to come up with a better version.

Today I’ll tackle some more learning and see how the day goes. I should probably go do some cleaning as well.  👀
