Crochet Strange Doll

My baby girl is turning 31 (yikes!) and she wanted a crochet doll for her birthday. She always gives me a challenge with what she wants. She’s an artist and always comes up with the most interesting and fun ideas. This time around, she wanted a spooky/weird/anxiety doll. She found these quirky ‘anxiety’ dolls at a flea market that she fell in love with and thought having a crochet version would be great.

I asked her to draw something out showing what she wanted. I was expecting (stupidly) something simple and basic. I’m not talking about the idea being simple, but the drawing. I have very basic drawing skills (think stick people), but I forgot who I was talking to. I got this:

I’m not complicated at all!

It’s a piece of art in itself! I want to frame it! LOL But look at those instructions. I had to chuckle. I told her the beautiful drawing was kinda self explanatory, but I ended up referring to her notes, so I guess she knew what she was doing. I had her look in my stash to see if she found a yarn that would work. I had one that was perfect but I guess I used it all up so she had to buy a skein anyway.

I still had a few questions though, like do those stitches go in a circle or can they just be curvy lines?ย No nose? (I made one anyway and had to take it out. I should stick to the notes!)

Nose

No nose as she wantedย  (I shouldn’t improvise without permission!)

Once I started, it was pretty straight forward. I did hit a snag with the red heart she wanted on the doll. I tried making a heart, but I couldn’t get it small enough to still look good, so I opted to embroider it. It came out great and fit the overall theme better.

I worked on the arm, trying to match her drawing. I think I achieved it.

I think I’m doing pretty well copying her design with yarn.

I’ll be ready soon!

I’ve convinced her to let me give it eyelashes. I just can’t leave well enough alone. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll post a pic when it’s all done.

  1. My niece is such an AWESOME artist but those genes came from her amazing parents. Yoli and Fred, take a bow! You made, raised, created, and inspired not only this brilliant gem but her intelligent, brainiac of a brother (your son/my nephew). WOW!!! You 4 leave me speechless with each of your individual talents. ๐Ÿคฉ
