Crochet Hook Cases and Holders

Today  I wanted to share my favorite hook cases that are stashed all around my house. I have them in craft bags, in nooks and crannies, and who knows where else. I say ‘my favorite’ because I have more hidden around somewhere, but those are empty and got set aside for some reason or another.

So this first one is THE favorite. It holds everything I need in one easy and convenient place. I initially made this one at my daughter’s request. She wanted something she could store her pen’s and a sketchbook all together. I made it to her specifications and then she decided the sketchbook was bigger than what she told me so I repurposed it for my own use as a hook case. It ended up being my favorite one. It holds my hooks easily and the pouch holds my gauge tool and measuring tape and anything else that’s an awkward size.

I love the star stitch so I led with that.

Everything fits!

See that pouch? It’s holding my case of steel hooks, which I never use because I don’t often do thread crochet. Come to think of it, why am I lugging that around?

Then I have this smaller one that I made years ago to take a few of my tools to work so I could teach the kids how to crochet. Now I use it when I travel somewhere and don’t want to take the bigger one. It has my less important hooks so if I lose one, I’m not too upset about it.

I made this one using Tunisian Knit Stitch.

These are my travel hooks. Each end is a different size so I have a hook for every need. I bought these by accident thinking I was getting double ended hooks of the same size for doing Tunisian crochet in the round. They were inexpensive so it was fine I messed up.

I do a lot of Tunisian crochet and I needed something that could hold my longer hooks. I originally made this one to hold my knitting needles, Tunisian crochet hooks and regular hooks. Too bad knitting didn’t last long but it served it’s purpose well.

But eventually I made this new one for my longer hooks. I’ve stuck with this one for awhile now.

And then I have my cups. I keep one by my bed in my bedroom and I keep one in my office. You never know when I need a hook and tapestry needle, stat!

Let me point out that I did NOT pull any hooks or other tools from any of my cases. That’s how they are permanently loaded. I don’t know if I should feel proud of myself for always being ready for any and all crochet needs or if I should be ashamed of myself for having more hooks (and scissors and tapestry needles) than I could ever really use. I’ll let you be the judge. 🙂

  1. Those are all great! So cute!! They’d be really nice as bags/purses too — add a long strap or even short ones. I have a small felt bag with short handles. So cute. Very useful just to carry a wallet and a phone.

  2. Thanks for sharing these photos. It’s giving me ideas for my double-ended Tunisian hooks, which right now are… I don’t know. In the house. I have a couple of ideas of where they might be. I need a case for them so I can find them easily.

  3. I keep my hooks loose at the bottom of a bag that use to tote my work around in because I never thought about creating something for them to be stored in and these look like fun projects to tackle making and certainly more eye appealing than what I currently have.
PS. compared to you, I don’t have enough hooks. I only have 1 of each size 😦

    • That made chuckle. One hook in each size is the perfect amount of hooks deserving of a cute case.
I definitely have a problem. I like having the same hook size made from different materials. Don’t get me started on the ones I have just because they’re pretty! But I’m not too worried about it. I haven’t gotten a new hook in ages, ages I tell you. 😉

  4. Wow Yolanda you have a LOT of hooks. LOL!!!! Love all of your hook cases and I love it more that you have some you don’t even use!!!! I’m feeling a little embarrassed about my normal sized hook collection and the fact that I have never made a hook case for them!!! 😀

      • Geez I have enough abandoned wips I could probably make into a hook case. Right now they are all in a ceramic cup that my daughter made at school here on my “crochet command center” which is really is just my computer desk with all of my crochet bric a brac, accessories, tons of pieces of paper with unintelligible notes on them, safety pins, stitch markers, etc etc etc. 😀

  5. Better to be safe than sorry! lol Just a couple of days ago I needed to run to the craft store for a crochet hook sized 4.5. I was so shocked that I didn’t have one. I bet you have one at the ready. I love your cases!

    • Yeah, I doubt I’ll ever have to run out to get a hook but I might do it just for fun. 😉 I went looking for a swatch my mom made and found another hook case I made! It was cute and I was wondering why I set it aside. I was thinking I should put it back in circulation. So you see? I need more hooks! 😂
