Mario is finished and waiting to be given to his new owner. His new owner still needs a few more stars on the chart to earn him but he’s close 🙂
Aside from having anxiety about getting the face and hat right, he wasn’t as hard as I was worried he might be.
The pattern
The length of the arms and legs can be adjusted by adding more or less rows. Change it to your preference.
G hook, medium 4 worsted weight yarn, red, tan, blue, white, dark brown, black
Head (Make 2)
Ch 11 in tan
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across (10 sc), ch1, turn
Row 2 – 10: sc in each st across (10 sc), ch 1, turn
Change to red in last st of row 10
Row 11: repeat row 2
Row 12: sc2tog (decrease), sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog (8 sc), ch 1, turn
Row 13: sc2tog (decrease), sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog (6 sc), ch 1, turn
Row 14: sc2tog (decrease), sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog (4 sc), ch 1
Fasten off
Brim of hat
Decide which piece will be the face. Take your red yarn and attach it where the tan color meets the red color.
Make a hdc in the front post of the sc
Do a dc in the front post of the next 8 scs
Do a hdc in the front post of the last st
Here is what the brim looks like.
Fasten off and make the face and emblem on the hat. Here is a close up of what I did.

I tried my best to make it look like Mario but feel free to experiment and see if you get better results.
Body (make 2)
Ch 11 in blue
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across (10 sc), ch1, turn
Row 2 – 10: sc in each st across (10 sc), ch 1, turn
Change to red in last st of row 10
Row 11: repeat row 2
Fasten off. Take a long piece of blue string and and wrap it around vertically around some stitches to create the straps of his overalls. Do this to both pieces of the front and the back. On one piece, take some yellow string and wrap it around the straps a fews times to create the look of buttons or you could add real buttons.
Sew the pieces together leaving an opening for the stuffing and sew closed. Make sure the straps and buttons are facing out :-).
Arms (make 2)
Ch 9 in red
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across (8 sc), ch 1, turn
Row 2-10: sc in each st across (8 sc), ch 1, turn
Change to white in last stitch of row 10
Row 11 and 12: repeat row 2
Fasten off, fold in half and sew up the sides.
